I’m sure everyone who ever played a game knows Doom by now, so I’m not sure what to write. I’ll just say random words that everyone can ignore and then you can get on to finally downloading it at the end of the post, ready to play on modern computers in GZDoom, with the Beautiful Doom enhancement which as the name implies enhances your Doom experience with among other things lots more blood, extra death animations and flying limbs. Go on. Skip my ramblings and download it.

On with the rambling. First of all, fucking great game, and one of the few that can be played through and through again. I must of played through it a dozen times over the last 13 years that this game is out. And I have great taste in games, so that says something.

The goal in the game is basically to kill about every demon in hell, kill the head-demon (which has conveniently exposed brains) and get out of that fucking place.

Everything about the game is fantastic, the level design is unsurpassed, the sounds are perfect,  and ofcourse the hectic surprise attacks. Wandering in an empty room, seeing a much needed medkit, and suddenly being ambushed by a million soldiers, imps and Hell Barons getting you to frantically shoot at all directions and strafing the fuck everywhere never gets old. Which brings me to the next thing thats basically perfect, the monsters. Imps that shoot fireballs, goat demons that fire green blobs at you, fucking mechanized spiders that shoot freakin’ lasers, big flying tomato like demons that fire plasma balls, skeletons with heatseeking rocket launchers on their shoulders, flying flaming skulls that screechingly charge you, one eyed bubbly round demons that fire aforementioned flying flaming skulls, and so on… I mean really, that’s just pure gold.

Nothing more to say (well, there is but I’m not going to) but download this thing already. The Beautiful Doom enhancement really adds to the game with as mentioned more gore, but also better sounds (the shotgun got more oomph to it for instance) and minor things like bulletholes. Not to mention the GZDoom part which adds lighting effects, higher resolutions, jumping, mouselook and a plethora of other neat stuff.

Download Doom II (10.8 MiB, 35 downloads)
